Oxford 1:76 Morris Commercial J-Type
The cute J-Type was produced from 1949 to 1961 and had a 1476cc side-valve engine (updated to a 1489cc ohv engine in 1957).
Oxford's ice-cream van version is about what you'd expect for the scale, i.e. not bad but nothing special.
Vanguards 1/43 Morris Minor van
A Series 2
Actually there never was a series 1 version of the van. The van differed from the saloon by having a separate chassis.
A simple model that gets the shape right but has little detail or finesse.
Vanguards 1/43 Vauxhall Cresta
The Cresta was a tarted up version of the Velox, a car that was highly regarded in its day.
Superb grille and chrome
Note how the rear dorr handles blend into the chrome strip that sweeps back to the fins.
Vanguards 1/43 Vauxhall Victor
This is the Victor 'F' that was produced from 1957 to 1961. This is the pre-1959 version before the styling was simplified a little. The Victor had a 1.5 litre engine and a three-speed gearbox.
Vanguards have done a reasonable job here but it doesn't bear comparison with their Cresta.
Painted on 'chrome' never looks good close up.
Vanguards 1/43 Ford 100E
The 100E was also sold in slightly different guises as the Anglia, the Prefect and the Escort.
When the new Anglia was introduced in 1959, this model became the 'Popular' and was sold at a lower price with basic equipment. It used a side-valve engine and three-speed gearbox.
